“For
people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive,
disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable,
slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous,
reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power…” 2 Timothy 3:1-5
In times past, it
seemed that the church informed the culture.
The church had a voice in the society and the conduct of the average
man. In the present day, the ways of the
culture are attempting to inform the seemingly antiquated ways of the Christian
church.
In the past month, I
have encountered three societal issues which are knocking on the door of the
church. The Supreme Court of the United
States redefinition of marriage has challenges the traditional biblical
definition. The public gender change of
a well-known Olympian has affirmed society’s belief that gender is arbitrary
and solely a self-designated characterization.
A cyber-attack on a website has exposed the seediness of service to
facilitate affairs between marriage persons.
Each of these issue
are challenging the decision making model of the church. Each are standing in opposition to sound biblical
teaching. Each are invading the
conversations of our youth and adults and endeavoring to change the truth for a
lie.
As the body of Christ
we ought not to be surprised. Scripture
clearly forewarns each Christian of this phenomenon. Furthermore, we ought not to be shocked for
the enemy’s modus operandi… the enemy’s master plan is always to divert one
from God. What we are seeing in the
world today is not the beginning of a new conversation but the endgame of
Satan's conversation in the garden.
